Old Sony Vaio notebook/laptop battery? Just got an old Sony Vaio Laptop/Notebook. And I am wondering how to charge the battery. I have looked into Power Options, I see one battery that is supposedly 100 % charged, but when I use the Laptop without the AC adapter it shuts down. I have pulled the battery out and there is no AC adaption or anything to it so I can charge it by itself. I leave the laptop plugged in (but turned off), but none of the front buttons blink, showing a charge. Am I supposed to leave it on? Cuz it gets hot. sony vaio notebook/laptop wont turn on? i have a sony vaio laptop/notebook (not sure which). last night my internet wasnt working, so i restarted the computer because usually when i do that the internet comes back on. well this time it went off and never came back on. i plugged in the computer to make sure it wasnt just because it wasnt charged. i tried pressing the power button and some other buttons. there are little lights near the bottom of my laptop and the one next to the power symbol is green. (also there is a button th just turn the screen off and i tried pressing that to make sure it wasnt just the screen.) also when i press the power button the little light next to the batteery symbol is red until i stop pressing the power button. my laptop is plugged in so i dont know what could be the problem can anybody help me fix this???

Ok, so I am not a computer wiz, infact I know very little and still pride myself on knowing the Ctrl+Alt+Delete thingy lmao. So I need this in "for dummies" speak. I was given a Sony Vaio notebook (Laptop) a few years ago, I was given nothing with it except the power pack and a case. It runs XP Professional at the moment and it says on the back that its PCG-9J2M Model :s. Basically it is totaled, it now comes up with a message when it boots that says failure is immanent and to press f4 or something similar. I want to wipe it completely clean and start again running the Linux OS. Problem is I have absolutely no idea how to do this sort of thing, I found the Linux UK website but it doesn't give me the way to do this. I have no disks to help either. The disk drive in it is rather dodgy and makes a hell of a noise and sometimes doesn't work at all, it has 3 usb slots, floppy drive is dead and it has another drive but I have no idea what for. Sony Vaio Notebook Will Not Boot...? I have a Sony Vaio laptop model# PCG-7R2L that will not boot. All that happens is the number lock/scroll lock/caps lock led's and the power button led and a couple led' in the front by the latch come on. It will not boot, lcd does nothing, no fan noise, no hdd noise etc... The dvd drive does make a couple sounds when I press the power button and will open and close. Basically the notebook just sits and does nothing until I have to hold the power button to turn it off. The battery does charge and it does operate like my explanation (above) without a battery and plugged into an ac outlet.I was given this for free and was told something may have spilled on it? It has xp media center, P4 2.4, 1gb ram etc...Does this sound like a mobo issue? I heard pulling the CMOS battery may help? The dvd drive does work, the disk spins just fine so there is power to the drive...

Sony Vaio AC adapter VGP- AC19V19 melting or catching on fire? 3 years ago, my brother got a Sony Vaio Notebook/ Laptop Model # PCG-7T1L for Christmas 2006. Today he got on the computer and he smelled something funny. The smell went away, but a few hours later, the cord sparked and smoke started to rise form the charging port. He unplugged it from the back of the computer, and it was hot. It melted some of the adapter cord. It almost stared a fire. Has anyone else had this problem? What should I do? Sony Vaio Notebook Computer Issues with Networking? Hello! I recently purchased a Sony Vaio laptop computer and I am having issues with it and am wondering if you think I should exchange it or have it repaired (purchased a week ago). I set up the wireless network to the computer, but its been giving me issues. If I set it up to auto connect when I start the computer, it doesn't connect to the internet, only the local connection (sometimes, if I wait like 10 minutes before trying though, the internet will be there). To fix this, I have to disconnect from the network and then reconnect to the network. In addition to this, when I'm online occasionally websites will just stop loading and I will get "connection interrupted" messages or "Proxy Error" messages. Again, to fix this, I have to disconnect and reconnect to the network. At first, I thought this was a problem with my wireless internet connection, however, I have taken it to 2 other locations that have wireless services (airport and local college), and the computer did the same things at these locations as well, which leads me to believe this is the computer. Now, I called BestBuy and they said to bring it in and have a Geek Squad agent look at it. Now here is my concern: a) Do I return/exchange the computer b) Repair it (It should be under the mfg. warranty, which means I have to wait for it). Issues: I have already installed word and my anti-virus on there, I'm concerned that I won't be able to do it again because they limit the number of times you can do this, what do I do for this? Should I insist BestBuy pay for the re-downloads? Or do I have to repurchase? I had to install Word 2 other times on my desktop (first installation, and then a 2nd when the hard drive crashed), so this is my 3rd installation of Home and Student Microsoft Office...doing it again will put me over my limit I'm pretty sure. Any tips/advice/suggestions would be appreciated!!

My Sony Vaio Laptop with Windows Vista isn't working? I have a Sony Vaio notebook model number PCG-394L. It came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Now it's not working at all. I had downloaded something i didn't need anymore, and was using 'Add or Remove Programs' to delete them. Then the next time i turned it on it wouldn't work. A friend thinks i may have accidentally deleted something crucial to the operating system. He already figured out that the hardware itself is fine. He thinks i should use the installation CD to re-install Vista. But the thing is i lost the CD. I'm not even sure if i got one. I've been trying and, after pressing F10 a couple times, i got to this menu thing. There i could click one of 4 options, a Diagnostic thing, a Repair thing, a Backup thing and a Restore thing. The restore said it will restore it to the factory settings, but goes to a blank screen after supposedly doing it. I'm not sure if i'm just so impatient i turn it off before it finished or what. Also on the rare chance when i try to open it normally it does go to the User Account Login screen (which takes half an hour to do) it can't log in. I could really use some help.

the battery indicator on my sony vaio notebook shows up when it feels like and disappears when it feels? when i boot up my sony laptop vgn-fs315e sometimes the battery indicator in the taskbar doesnt appear, if i reboot, the indicator appears. If i reboot it again, the indicators disappears. ive extended the taskbar, ive even customized it in the taskbar properties to always show, but it still misbehaves.

How do i fix my Sony vaio update or start up problem? I have a sony vaio laptop/notebook and the model is VGN-NR120E. Ive had this computer for about 1 1/2 or almost 2 years and this has never happened. Here is what is happening: Normally when my laptop updates itself it will install the update, shutdown, and then restart itself again. This happened about 2 weeks ago and is still happening. When i shut off my computer 2 weeks ago and started it up the next day it was installing a new update right after i turned on my computer and i thought it was just going to do a normal update as usual. So after it was done updating it restarted itself as usual. Now here comes the problem.. When it restarted itself again it was installing another update. And now the major problem that i am having is that it keep updating and restart updating and restarting.... etc. Since it keeps doing that i cannot log on or anything. I have tried turning it off by pressing the power button but wheni turn it back on it still does the update and restart thing. I have also tried starting it back up in all of the safe modes. I do not think i have a virus because i have very good virus protection. It may be a glitch in the update but i dont know. Im currently using my sisters computer right now and i have no idea how to fix mine because i have tried every possible thing on my computer to try and fix it. I also contacted sony, but i dont have a warranty on my laptop so its 100 bucks just for them to take a look at it. So any help would be appreciated. still hapening

Does anyone know the easiest way to upload pics from a digital cam onto a Sony Vaio Notebook? ? On my old laptop, I could just open a pictures folder, my dig cam would load all pics, and I would just click and drag into the pictures folder. The Vaio is a little confusing. Any suggestions? Thanks.

connecting a wireless mouse using bluetooth to a laptop (SONY VAIO)? I bought the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000 for my laptop . It works fine with the exterior transmitter plugged into the USB port, but I can't connect the mouse through bluetooth built-in to the computer. ((COMPUTER MODEL - PCG-7141L SONY VAIO)) Does anyone know how I can do this ? And when I tried to connect it, it can't find the device. thank you .

Why is my vaio sony notebook blank but the green light still on? When i turn my laptop on, only two buttons are lit up- the green on &the last orange one. a few seconds later, the orange button stops lighting up while the green one is still on &i heard the fan working. the only thing is that my screen is blank. is there a reason &a resolution to fix it? if it helps, a couple of months ago my laptop wouldn't turn on at all &about 3months later it suddenly worked. please reply if you know the answer, THANK YOU !

I just bought a sony vaio FZ notebook. I hear a whining sound from the left bottom corner of the laptop.? The sound is feeble but audible. It happens more frequently when I open a web page in IE7 which has a flash player object. Anyone here has similar problems?. Help please..

Sony Vaio Notebook versus MacBook? I'm trying to decide between a Sony Vaio notebook (VGN-FW240J/H) and a MacBook (MB403LL/A). The new laptop will replace my desktop. The Vaio is larger, but I'm not sure of using MS Vista as my OS. The Mac seems like the more creative choice, but the Sony has more features. Any help or feedback on the computers is appreciated. Crashed Sony Vaio Laptop? Every time i turn on my vaio laptop, it will crash, and no matter which way i tell it to reboot it restarts. It's crashing in loops. the only option I can choose that won't make it loop crash is the "Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)". when I click on that one, an error message pops up that says, "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: /WINDOWS/system32/config/SYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair." My problem is i have lost the "original CD" Please help me. it is a Sony VAIO PCG-8N2L model Notebook Computer. HELP!!! If there is no way i can repair this myself, please tell me were i can go to get it repaired and how much it would cost. I wanted to say, just in case this might have done anything, I tried to restore it with a restoration CD, but it was formatted for a desktop Emachines.

Sony Vaio or Mac Notebook? I currently own a colored Sony Vaio laptop. I haven't had any problems with it, but I've been hearing that Macs are better so I'm debating on selling my Vaio and purchasing a macbook (especially with their new promotion-- free ipod touch). I've put my laptop up for sale and i've received at least 3 replies and there is one person who's still e-mailing me to purchase it. Then I heard Vaio is better than Mac. But then I also heard Mac is better. Now, I can't decide... I would be using my laptop for mostly school work when I go to college. Gaming isn't a big deal because I also have a desktop computer. So.. what should I do?? the money isn't a huge issue because my vaio was expensive anyway. if i end up selling it, i wouldn't lose any money to trade it for apple. i might actually get more money.

whats wrong with my Sony Vaio laptop ?? iv had my Sony Vaio laptop for about 5 years now. it is awfully loud. i checked and the vents dont seem to be blocked but it makes a really loud whirring/blowing sound. i only noticed how bad it was when my parents bought a cheaper and much quieter laptop. the model is a Notebook PCG-9P7M if that helps. i paid around 800-900 £ for it at the time so i would expect better quality from Sony. Does anyone else have this problem or know if it can be fixed? thanks

Sony Vaio laptop, bought my second laptop in 2 years, unfortunetly, I spilled soda? Okay so I spilled soda on the table that my laptop was sitting on. The laptop was sitting in the soda for a good 10-20 seconds before I was able to rescue it and move it. When I turn the notebook on, it turns on, the lights light up at startup but the screen is not on, it remains black and nothing happens. Is there anything I can do to save my laptop??? There's something wrong with the built-in camera in my VAIO laptop? When i take a picture, all is seen is white. The viewfinder is blank, white. I can't seem to use it anymore because it doesn't work. I tried the contrast and brightness, it still doesn't work. Please help! I don't know what caused it to be like this. It worked before.
